Youth for Good Governance

15 May 2012 - Giving young people a place in decision-making processes builds a broader base of citizen involvement and creates stronger, more inclusive communities.

This is why UNDP and the National Agency for Youth and Sports joined forces to start a new project aiming at empowering youth to participate in local governance processes.

At today’s official launch, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Alessandro Fracassetti said that “young people must not be merely passive beneficiaries but effective agents of change. We must do more to reach out, to listen and to learn from young people”.

This new project, funded by UNDP with 230,000 USD, will be implemented over the next two years in partnership with the Agency for Youth and Sports, national and local institutions, the civil society, the business community and youth.

The Director of the Agency for Youth and Sports Popovski said that “it is important for young people to openly voice their problems and concerns, so that we can work together on finding joint solutions”.

Trainings, small grants schemes, and youth forums are only some of the activities that will be carried out in six municipalities throughout the country in the forthcoming period.
